About the Ebook
The Oxy Generation is a journey into the rapidly emerging world of prescription narcotics abuse. I take a close look at the addiction cycle sustained by some of the peers that I have known through my childhood. Pharmaceutical drugs such as OxyContin were reaching a new popularity as I was progressing through high school and into college. Vicodin had always been a fairly popular drug with my peers, but with the ever increasing potency and introduction of time-release opiates, my friends and peers became addicts rather than recreational users. I escaped the grasp of these drugs because I had left to college to pursue baseball. When I had come back to my city that I knew and loved, I noticed a torrential change. OxyContin found end users among those who had been recreational with cocaine or milder opiates, even marijuana in some cases. I noticed these users stealing from family and friends, robbing banks and pharmacies, going to jail, and some even suffering a lonely and premature death. I acknowledge that drug users indicating the drug as the problem does not solve a thing for them or for anyone else, but it does enlighten others of the potential of small yet critical choices in recreational drug use. It is not my goal to give a voice to those who are too incompetent to rise up and solve their own problems. I would simply like to display the path that pharmaceutical drugs will eventually take you down. The new age of pharmaceutical drugs potentially targets anyone. We all have rough times in life and some of us sustain physical injuries that usher in a doctor who is too eager to prescribe you hard narcotics. The thoughts in our head often head toward immediate alleviation of our problems. Split decision can be the distinction between an addict and a working professional. Doctors prescribe these addictive drugs for petty injuries. The easy access, our fast paced world and human error can all lead to addiction. This book is to guide you from these forks in the road.
