57 Images of Japan (enhanced ebook)
I love the images of the street – people in the moment, the ephemeral and often powerful statements of street art and graffiti. The moment, in Japan, includes the land, gardens, wood and stone, shaped through millennia by culture and time, survivors of apocalyptic wars, earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. Taken in the summer of 2013, these photographs are from my first trip to Japan, first impressions of an Eastern culture I had only experienced through film, books, and museums. What I know about street photography I took with me, along with bags full of TriX and Portra film. For my partner, Claudia, this was pilgrimage, the realization of a life-long quest to return to the culture she had fallen in love with while living there as a child.
