Biographical note on the Translator:
James Henry Breasted (b. August 27, 1865, d. December 2, 1935) played a very important part in modern archeological history. He was the first American citizen to obtain a PhD in Egyptology. He was the founder of The Oriental Institute in Chicago (the University of Chicago’s archeology museum). He was also the first archaeologist to be elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences (1923). He made several trips to Egypt, and helped Howard Carter decipher the seals from the Tomb of Tutankhamun (King Tut) in 1922 & 1923. He was president of The American Historical Association in 1928 (founded in 1884), and in 1985 they established The James Henry Breasted Prize in honor of his name.
