There are quite a lot problems with printmaking in general. There is reproduction of course, but reproduction is quite a different matter - a matter of deception perhaps, or a matter cheapness. However, digital printmaking is a matter of experimentation, of using it to create something different to what is achieved with more traditional media. Manipulating drawing, paintings and photographic images with computer software and blending it together to make a finished print takes a lot of effort and skill; working with these media becomes something special.
Since the early eighties Douglas Thomson has had many solo exhibitions, mostly in European countries including Scotland, England, Germany and Switzerland, as well as exhibiting internationally in group exhibitions. He now lives in Scotland.
