About the Ebook
Eighty black and white square photographs of ordinary things.
The book came about as the result of an experiment in composition and framing.
I took around eighty of my better photographs that were in a rectangular format with the intention of making good square versions.
I expected to have to reject the vast majority of the images as being unworkable and that the remaining ones would all be markedly inferior to the rectangular versions.
In the end only two did not make the cut. In just about every other case the square version was every bit as good if not better than its original counterpart.

About the Creator
Steve Johnson
Valparaiso, Indiana, USA
Steve Johnson was originally a painter who took photographs. Over the last decade he has become a photographer who paints occasionally. His distinctive minimal style stems from the belief that subject matter is not as important as aesthetic considerations like composition, tone, and line. Steve has taught visual art and undertaken commercial art projects on both sides of the Atlantic and in the Middle East. He and his wife also owned a gallery that specialized in both painting and photography. Steve’s work has been exhibited in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He is a UK citizen who lives and works in the American Midwest.
