This book tells the story of places US history happened in words and (more than 500) photos. The book is built around the extensive set of photos taken by the author and his father during 50+ years of travels. It provides an excellent introduction to US history; the photos supplement the text and build interest in events in US history. Its main purpose is as a supplementary text for high school students studying US history (and it follows the Virginia Standards of Learning for High School US history), but it would also be of interest to adults who are interested in knowing more about US history and the places where history happened.
I worked for 30 years as a defense consultant and military historian before taking early retirement and becoming a high school history and ESOL teacher. I started traveling to historic sites with my parents and I've been taking photos of my travels since I was 8 years old. I've been a part-time freelance photographer (mainly sports) for 10 years and have coached soccer teams for 20 years.
