Tintoretto boldly moved forward in the world of painting to bring fresh action, drama, and light onto his canvases. In Look to the Shore his amazing talents come together in a portrayal of an ethereal risen Christ as he motions to seven of his disciples, who are being tossed about by the sea. Above, a dark sky filled with wind and threatening clouds hovers over them as they struggle hopelessly with their empty nets. All the elements speak to the dramatic organization found in so many of the artist's works. Quite prolific, the book also includes paintings Tintoretto did of Christ's life. The Sea of Galilee is a highlight of one of the chapters, as is the miracles of the day Christ called to his men from the shore.
